Politics is more interactive than ever. It's hard to miss a beat from the campaign trail as media channels use social networks and political apps for continuous coverage. For example, YouTube launched an Elections Hub, an online one-stop-shop for elections coverage, this year. The hub features content from ABC News, Al Jazeera English, The New York Times and other media.

With its iPad app, ABC News wants to help users 'narrow down a vast amount of information' further by funneling live reports and analysis. One way the app does this is through a Storify social media feed that accompanies the live streams.
The app, which allows users to control their viewing experience and makes good use of the tablet-control interface, was also available for viewers of the Republican National Convention.
'By literally layering together live video with the text-oriented social feed, and letting users position the social content to their liking, we are taking a first step in exploring how to use touch navigation to fuse the television and desktop navigation sensibilities,' says Doug Vance, vice president of product strategy at ABC News.
Social media is now an integral part of elections coverage. Other networks, including CNN, are utilizing Facebook as a 'second screen' for political coverage. CNN's 'America's Choice 2012' Facebook app debuted this summer. Facebook users can share their political views, track social buzz and participate in surveys on the social network.
