The Ultima franchise originally debuted in the 1980s, and was created by Origin Systems and Richard Garriott. Ultima Forever appears to be a re-imagining of Ultima IV: Quest for the Avatar, which was released on the Apple II, then ported to the NES and Sega Master System. EA obtained the rights to the series later.
